ARTS BRIEFS - Acappella group to present concert

The vocal group Acappella will present a concert Saturday at Minot State University's Ann Nicole Nelson Hall. Doors open at 6 p.m., with performance set to begin at 7 p.m.

"We want to provide an evening of uplifting entertainment for the local communities," said Laura Cremeans, co-director of the Churches of Christ Disaster Response Team. "A time when everyone can get away from the muck and destruction for a while, meet up with friends from the community and just relax, listen and enjoy."

The Melbourne, Fla.,-based Churches of Christ Disaster Response Team along with the Minot Church of Christ is sponsoring this event for Minot and the surrounding areas. The group is currently working in Minot bringing in volunteer crews to help with rebuilding efforts.

Free tickets can be picked up at the Minot Church of Christ today and Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., or an e-ticket can be printed by going to the Minot Church of Christ Web site at (www.minotchurchofchrist.com).

Concert band opens rehearsals

The Minot Community Concert Band has begun weekly rehearsals Mondays at 7:30 p.m. at Jim Hill Junior High.

Regular rehearsals take place the first and third Monday of each month. The group is open to all musicians, and is currently seeking percussionists, double reed players and bass clarinet players.
