Child care facilities respond to evacuation

June 23, 2011
Minot Daily News

Eighteen child-care providers have shut down and 18 more have relocated due to the flood evacuation in Minot, according to North Dakota Child Care Resource and Referral.

Some of the closed homes and centers may re-open if space is found. Some providers are working with other providers to obtain space and others are finding other facilities or homes. Licensing rules that were relaxed during a previous evacuation remain in place to enable providers to take in more children than permitted by their licenses as long as they have an adequate staffing ratio.

The closures affect 135 children in 93 families, while the relocations affect 394 children in 128 families.

MLT Vacations reported it is surveying its employees about their child-care needs to determine whether to make space available in its building for a center.
