Minot FFA members win awards

Minot High School FFA members won awards at the State FFA convention in Fargo this week.

In the nursery landscape category, Amanda Beck placed first and received a gold rating; Garrett Becker placed second and received a gold rating; Alicia VanSweringen placed fifth and received a gold rating; Kali Sivertson placed seventh and received a gold rating and Brock Severson placed ninth and received a gold rating. The team placed first overall and will advance to the national FFA convention in October.

In the floriculture category, Abi Shaw placed first and received a gold rating; Jordan Peterson placed second and received a gold rating; Shonda Gasmann placed 10th and received a gold rating and Jennifer Williams took eighth place and received a gold rating. The team took first place overall and will advance to the national competition.

In the small animal care category, Ashley Reedy received a gold rating; Sarah Schieve a silver rating; Shonda Gasmann a gold rating and Alicia VanSweringen a gold rating and Jennifer Williams a silver rating. The team took third place overall.

Garrett Roen took second place in the intermediate ag mechanics category. In the advanced ag mechanics category, Kevin Sivertson received a silver rating, Ethan Hanson a gold rating, Anthony Pitner a gold rating and James Murphy a bronze rating. The team took fourth place overall and received a gold rating.

In the ag communication category, competitors Jordan Zietz, Jordan Peterson, Shonda Gasmann, Chris Pitner and Anthony Pitner all received gold ratings and the team took second place overall.

In the horse evaluation category, the team made up of Sarah Schieve, Shonda Gasmann and Alicia VanSweringen received a silver rating. Schieve and Gasmann won silver ratings individually and VanSweringen earned a bronze rating.

In the food science category, Laurice Morningstar took fifth place and a gold rating; Amanda Beck, took 33rd place and a gold rating; Cole Hanson took 16th place and a gold rating; Brock Severson took eighth place and a gold rating; and Kali Sivertson took 36th place and a gold rating. The team took fifth place overall and earned a gold rating.

In the dairy foods category, Chris Pitner received a gold rating; Kevin Sivertson received a gold rating; James Murphy received a silver rating; Garrett Roen received a silver rating and Ethan Hanson received a silver rating. The team received a silver rating.

In the dairy showmanship category, Josh Kauffman received a bronze rating.

In the meats evaluation category, Hayley Horner received a gold rating; Josh Kauffman received a gold rating; Cole Hanson received a gold rating; Laurice Morningstar received a gold rating and Robert Ditmars received a bronze rating. The team took fifth place overall and received a gold rating.

In the job interview category, Jordan Zietz received a silver rating.

In the courtesy corps category, Robert Ditmars and Breanna Zietz both received a gold rating.

In the advanced quiz category, Ashley Reedy received a silver rating; Kali Sivertson received a silver rating; Sarah Schieve received a bronze rating; Ethan Hanson received a bronze rating and Abi Shaw received a bronze rating. The team received a bronze rating.
