MANDAN Area students won awards at the 13th Annual Technology Student Association State Leadership Conference held in Mandan on March 21-22.
Twenty-three students from Erik Ramstad and Jim Hill Middle Schools and Minot High School-Central Campus attended leadership activities and competed in various technical categories.

The 10 chapter members from Ramstad won the trophy for the most money raised per capita for Relay for Life, raising $441 in a Miracle Minute.
The mission of the Technology Student Association is to prepare middle and high school students for the challenges of a dynamic world by promoting technological literacy, leadership and problem solving resulting in personal growth and opportunities. First place finishers qualify to compete at the National TSA Convention to be held in Dallas, Texas, this summer.

Pre-Easter Bake Sale social event planned
The Thor Lodge Sons of Norway in Minot will host the spring pre-Easter Bake Sale, Luncheon, Grandma's Attic, Book Sale and Pie and Ice Cream Social April 16 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Scandinavian Heritage Association building, lower level, 1020 S. Broadway. Barbecue sandwiches and knephla soup will be served all day.

N.D. Tourism hosts freelance writers retreat
FARGO The deadline is today for freelance writers to take part in an upcoming writers retreat.
The fifth annual retreat is offered at no cost by North Dakota Tourism on April 18 in Fargo. The event begins at 10 a.m. April 18, in the Fargo Air Museum.
The retreat is billed as a networking opportunity for area writers to come together, expand their writing resources and learn more about writing in and about North Dakota. It will feature such guest speakers as Midwest Living editor Kendra Williams and multimedia storyteller Tanner Latham.
Attendees also are invited to attend the annual North Dakota Travel Conference, set for April 19-20 in the Holiday Inn in Fargo.

Sex offender task force lecture rescheduled
The Northwest Art Center Lecture Series presentation "It's Time...To Get Involved" by the Minot Area Sex Offender Task Force has been rescheduled for April 18 at 7 p.m. in the Aleshire Theater, Minot State University. Originally scheduled for March 23, the presentation was postponed due to weather.
Paula Bosh, FBI; Lisa Gayzur, Ward County Social Services; and Sgt. Darren Dyke, Minot Police Department, will discuss this year's Sexual Assault Awareness Month campaign, "It's Time ... To Get Involved," promoted nationwide this month.
The lecture is free and open to the public. An informal reception will follow the presentation. Parking on the MSU campus is unrestricted after 5 p.m.

Recycling talk set in anticipation of Earth Day
North Dakota Department of Health Environmental Scientist Christy Smith will present "Preventing and Reducing Waste, Recycling 101, and Buying Recycled Products" on the Northwest Art Center Lecture Series April 20 at 7 p.m. in the Aleshire Theater, Minot State University.
"In North Dakota, each person generates over five pounds of waste per day," Smith said. "Preventing and reducing waste, recycling and buying recycled products are everyone's responsibility."
The lecture coincides with international activities on environmental awareness that lead to the annual observance of Earth Day April 22.
The lecture is free and open to the public. An informal reception will follow the presentation. Parking on the MSU campus is unrestricted after 5 p.m.
