ARTS BRIEFS - Powers Lake presents 'Hee Haw'-style Variety Show

A "Hee Haw"-style Variety Show sponsored by Powers Lake Civic Club will be Sunday at 3 p.m. Tickets are $7 for adults, $4 for students and free for preschool. Ticket prices include lunch. All performers are local folks featuring their talent in the form of instrumental music selections, piano pieces, skits and more.

The Magic of Ireland will perform at 8 p.m. April 15 at the Minot Municipal Auditorium. The ticket price for the performance is $35, which can be purchased at the Minot Area Council of the Arts office.

The group includes two new cast members -- Troy MacGillivray, winner of the 2009 Roots/Traditional Recording of the Year and Julie Fitzgerald, Canadian Grand Master Fiddle Champion of 2009 and 2010 -- along with actors Jonathan Lynn, Thea Award-winning actor and designer with Toronto Irish Players and active member of the award-winning Toronto Irish Players, and Kevin Kennedy, who was featured in John N. Smith's NFB Oscar-nominated docudrama "The First Winter."

'Get Smart' auditions rescheduled

The Mouse River Players Community Theatre in Minot has rescheduled auditions for "Get Smart" for Monday at 7:15 p.m. in the Arlene Theater, 115-1st St. SE.

The audition was rescheduled because of Tuesday's snowstorm. This is a large-cast show with many roles available. It is a Mel Brooks' comedy spoof of spy thrillers. Conrad Davidson, Minot, will be the director. The play will be performed May 19-21 at 7:30 p.m. and May 22 at 2 p.m. in the Arlene Theater.

MSU Summer Theatre auditions open

Minot State University Summer Theatre auditions and interviews are set for April 1 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Aleshire Theatre in Hartnett Hall.

Auditions should be prepared and no longer than four minutes, showcasing both musical and acting talent. A current resume must accompany the audition.

Those interested should call ahead to reserve an audition time. Special times can be set up for those unable to attend the April 1 auditions. Audio and video tapes, CDs or DVDs can be substituted for the audition.
