Minot High School-Magic City Campus Family, Career and Community Leadership of America members will hold a silent auction in the high school gymnasium from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and again on Thursday to raise money for FCCLA trips to the state and national conferences.
Nikki Nevrost, a senior, and Aubrey Rosel, a junior, said items up for bid include gift cards from a number of local businesses, ranging from gift cards to Dairy Queen, 10 family passes from the YMCA and gift cards to Scheel's and Wal-Mart. Bidders will write their names and bids on a sheet of paper during the silent auction, which will be held during parent-teacher conferences, and the highest bid will win the item.
Nevrost said she and fellow FCCLA members visited businesses in person during spring break and talked to potential donors. Nevrost and Rosel said they think getting out into the community and communicating with business leaders helps with communication and leadership skills. Students had to decide how to communicate with a number of different businessmen, such as a deaf employee at one of the businesses.

The organization also does community service projects and some of the members have worked with local businesses when researching business projects.
Ten FCCLA members will attend the state conference in Bismarck April 10-12 and some will compete with different business-related projects. Competitors are also expected to travel to the national conference in California in July. The proceeds of the silent auction will help with their expenses.
