Retired CMSgt. U.S. Air Force Robert L. "Bob" Wallace, 66, of Niota, Tenn., passed away, Friday, Jan. 28, 2011, at his home.

A native and resident since 1990 of McMinn County, Tenn., he was a son of the late George Hurd and Annie Fillers Wallace, and was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Lee Wallace. He was born Jan. 31, 1944, in McMinn County. He married Shirley E. Westman Sept. 16, 1967, in Benedict.

He served with the 786th Radar Squadron, south of Minot, from 1965-68 and from 1971-75.

He was a member of Niota United Methodist Church where he was a trustee, member of the choir and a volunteer at Miss Sephie's. He retired from the U.S. Air Force, after 26 years of service as a chief master sargent and was a member of Meridan Sun Lodge #50 F&AM, Chilhowee Shriners, Athenian Chapter of O.E.S. #159 and was a former street and sanitation commisioner for the City of Niota.

Survivors: wife of 43 years, Shirley E. Westman Wallace of Niota; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Pauline K. and Greg Taylor of Somerville, Ala., Jennifer L. and Mike Conner of Garland, Texas; five grandchildren, Michael and Tara Taylor, Matthew, Brittany and Lauren Conner; Uncle, Jack Fillers; many nieces, nephews, cousins and special young lady, Katie Yarosh.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Niota United Methodist Church with Rev. Charles Ensminger officiating. Interment will follow with full military honors in Cedar Grove Cemetery at Athens, Tenn. Active pallbearers will be provided by the U.S. Air Force. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Long, Pat Moore, Fred Burkett, Lynn Montgomery, Jack Irwin, Charlie Boyd, Larry Kennedy, John Reed, better known as the "Old Niota Boys."

Memorial contributions may be made to Niota United Methodist Church Worship Center Fund, P.O. Box 190, Niota, TN 37826.

The family will receive friends Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home in Athens, with a Masonic Service following visitation at 8 p.m.
