- Maj. William Shomento became commander of the 208th Regiment Montana Regional Training Institute, formerly Montana Military Academy, at a change of command ceremony Oct. 2.
Shomento, a Minot native, received a degree in industrial engineering from North Dakota State University in Fargo and was commissioned as a ROTC Distinguished Military Graduate in the regular Army in May 1990. He graduated from Infantry Officer Basic Course, Airborne School and Ranger School and was assigned as a rifle platoon leader with Company A/87th Infantry Battalion, 10th Mountain Division (Light). In 1993, he joined the New York Army National Guard's Company C 2/108th Infantry Battalion.
He transitioned to the Army Reserve in December 1996, serving with the 401st Civil Affairs Battalion before moving in 1999 to Bozeman, Mont., and joining the 1/163rd Infantry Battalion. He served in various capacities with the battalion, including HHC Detachment commander, C Company commander and HHC commander. He served for a time with the 95th Troop Command and Training Site Headquarters.
He has been deployed to Somalia and Iraq.
- Maj. Gen. Gregory A. Biscone, formerly of Minot Air Force Base, has a new assignment as director of global operations J-3 at U.S. Strategic Command at Offutt AFB, Neb.
Gen. Norton Schwartz, Air Force chief of staff, recently announced Biscone's new assignment.
Biscone was commander of the 5th Bomb Wing at the Minot base from July 2003 to June 2005. Currently he has been serving as chief of staff of the Secretary of Defense Comprehensive Review Working Group at the Pentagon.
