Joel and Sonja Hernes of Minot will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary at an open house Sunday, July 25, from 2 to 4 p.m., with a program at 3 p.m., in Zion Lutheran Church, 1800 Hiawatha St. in Minot.
Their children, Janet Mathistad, Minot; Jeff Hernes, Shoreview, Minn.; Peter Hernes of Davis, Calif.; and Marsha Cotton, Great Falls, Mont., and their families will host the event.
Sonja Odland and Joel Hernes were married April 9, 1960, in Aberdeen, S.D. He was an Evangelical Lutheran Church in America Lutheran pastor in western North Dakota. She was an elementary school teacher and homemaker. The couple also has 10 grandchildren. They live at 1220-18 1/2 Ave. SW.
