Cattail program applications being accepted

April 5, 2010
Minot Daily News

Applications are now being accepted from North Dakota sunflower producers for participation in the 2010 cattail management program.

Conducted by Wildlife Services, the annual program provides aerial application of an aquatic herbicide to reduce cattail densities in wetlands. Removing the cattails helps reduce damage to nearby crop fields caused by blackbirds, who roost and use the plants as shelter while feeding in sunflower fields.

Applications must be received by July 1. Spraying begins in August and ends in early September. For more information or for application materials, contact USDA-APHIS/Wildlife Services at 1-866-487-3297 or 250-4405.
