Tractors and B-52s

December 3, 2009
Minot Daily News

Tractors and B-52s might one day have something in common the fuel they run on.

This is the fifth year the North Central Research Extension Research Center south of Minot has run a tractor on biodiesel made entirely from canola oil, said Gary Willoughby, research specialist at the North Central Research Extension Center south of Minot.

The research center hasn't had any problems with the tractor, which is used nearly every day under normal field operating conditions and has had, to date, no fuel-related repairs.

Willoughby has tested starting and operating the tractor with canola biodiesel in winter. Last winter, it started at 27 degrees without being plugged in. He will do more testing this winter.
