Chuck and Janet Duke, Minot, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with renewal of their vows and an open house Saturday, June 20, from 2 to 5 p.m. in Southside Church of the Nazarene, Minot. Their children and their families will host the event.
Chuck Duke and Janet Michalenko were married Feb. 14, 1959, at the Naval Hospital in Bethesda, Md. Chuck served in the Navy for 21 years. The couple moved to Minot in July 1976, where he managed different motels for two years and was director of the blood bank for one year, In 1980, he went to work for Community Action as a housing counselor. Seven months later, he was promoted to chief executive officer of Community Action, a position he held until 1999. After he retired, he was a courtesy driver for Fisher Motors and drove a limousine. He also served as an alderman on the Minot City Council from 1986-1998. Janet was a secretary for the highway department for several years and worked for a short time at Rivet Mile and for Porter Brothers before operating a home day care for 10 years. They have five children, Steve Duke and LeAnna Heupel, both Minot, Scott Duke, Glendive, Mont., LaDonna Mosser, Lake Oswego, Ore., and Stuart Duke, Spring, Texas, 11 grandchildren and soon to be nine great-grandchildren.
