The launch door of a Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile prepares to open during a simulated electronic launch test in the Minot missile field Tuesday, shown in this photo by Airman 1st Class Joe Rivera. During the test, all the actions of the launch leading up to the opening of the launch door, are implemented to ensure the safety, security and reliability of the Minuteman III ICBM. “This test ensures all aspects are 100 percent mission capable in a deployed environment and all systems function as designed,” said Col. Mike Spencer, vice commander of the 91st Missile Wing at Minot Air Force Base.
