The 13th annual Salute to Seniors event will be held May 12 at the North Dakota State Fairgrounds Magic Place. The event will include entertainment, education, hot lunch, vendors from throughout the community and door prizes. The event will begin at 9 a.m. and will last until 3:30 p.m. The price of admission is $12.
"It's a good day to learn about services in our area, to be entertained and to see some old friends, too. The last few years we've held it, we've had around 400 people attending. We have increased our price for admission this year, due to the cost of everything going up, but we still think seniors are getting a lot of bang for their buck," Susan Ogurek, direct services coordinator for Independence Inc. in Minot, said.
A change in the event this year is the inclusion of a hot meal for lunch. Ogurek said that entertainment at the event also remains a priority, with organizers searching for singers and a comedy act to add to the event.
In addition, there will be a speaker from NDAD (North Dakota Association for the Disabled) who will talk about available services in the area that can help seniors. Educational booths will feature information from service agencies, such as the library, health-care providers, assisted-living facilities and others.
"Put it on your calendar. We hope to see you there!" Ogurek said.
