Herbert Clark, 89, Powers Lake, passed away Monday, July 21, 2008, at Wedgewood Manor in Cavalier.
Herbert James Clark was born Oct. 24, 1918, a son of Loyal E. and Ida E. (Schwartz) Clark on the family farm located in Garness Township of Burke County, rural Powers Lake. He was raised on the family farm and was baptized at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. He was educated in rural Powers Lake and graduated from Powers Lake High School.
Herbert enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Forces on Oct. 28, 1942. He proudly served his country during World War II and was honorably discharged on Feb. 13, 1946.
Herbert was married to Clarice H. Morken on Dec. 13, 1944, in Minot. They made their home near Powers Lake, where he served as the postmaster of the Powers Lake Post Office. They also farmed on the Morken family farm located in Vanville Township of Burke County for several years. Clarice passed away June 22, 2000. Herbert had continued to reside in Powers Lake until moving to Cavalier in 2007.
He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, American Legion Post No. 96, and the Senior Citizens, all of Powers Lake. He also was a Mason, a Shriner, a Boy Scout leader, a hunter safety instructor, and was a government weather reporter for the Weather Bureau. He also wrote articles for The Minot Daily News.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed gardening and loved to plant and work his evergreen trees.
Surviving family includes: daughters, Maxine Peterson and her husband, Mark, Bowbells, Marlene Moody, Battleview; son, Dr. S. Meredith Clark and his wife, Susan, Cavalier; grandchildren, Karla Kristianson, Anthony "Tony" Clark, Angie Clark, and Marcus Moody; brother, Dean Clark, Williston; nieces and nephews.
Herbert was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Clarice; infant granddaughter; sons-in-law, Larry Kristianson and Jay Moody; and brothers, Norman, Murray, and Robert Clark.
Funeral: Saturday, July 26, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Powers Lake.
Interment: Bethel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Powers Lake.
Visitation: Today from 3 to 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Powers Lake.
