Nemo Nicholas

Nemo Nicholas, 34, of Chandler, Ariz., passed away on May 4, 2008. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Nemo was born on October 26, 1973, in Rupert, Idaho, to Brent and Julie Nicholas. Nemo and his older sister Nicole were raised by their parents on a farm outside of Rupert. Nemo helped his dad work with search and rescue dogs.

Nemo graduated from Minico High School in 1992 and was his class valedictorian. In 1996, Nemo graduated from Harvey Mudd College, the top U.S. college for science and engineering, with a degree in astrophysics and a minor in English Literature. During his time in college, Nemo spent one summer in Hawaii working at NASA’s Kiper Airborne Observatory.

Upon graduation, Nemo worked in California and Arizona on various engineering projects such as the F-22 and encrypted communication products used by the military and other private organizations.

Nemo married Bethany Rasmussen in 1999. Bethany is the daughter of Erling and Pam Rasmussen of Mesa, Ariz., and Stanley. Nemo and Bethany were blessed with two children, Nash and Kaitlyn. The family spent time each year on the farm homesteaded by Bethany’s great-grandparents north of Stanley. Nemo took great pride in being a husband and father and his family was the center of his life.

Nemo is survived by his wife Bethany Nicholas, of Chandler; children, Nash and Kaitlyn, at home; parents, Brent and Julie Nicholas, of Rupert; sister, Nicole (Ron) Thoreson, of Marianna, Fla.; and many extended family members.

A memorial service was held at Bunker’s Garden Chapel in Mesa on Saturday, May 10, 2008.

Nemo will be buried at Fairview Cemetery in Stanley on Monday, May 19, 2008.
