"After a cooler than normal summer"...

One of my pet peeves when it comes to weather reporting. What, exactly, constitutes "normal"? What's the criteria? One standard deviation from the average? Two standard deviations? What? Nobody ever explains this.

When they say "normal", what they really mean to say is "average". An average is determined only because there are data points both above AND below that point. It's entirely possible that what is determined to be "average" isn't even represented by a data point, meaning that temperature didn't even happen in reality. With that said, is it really, truly "normal"?

Cut it out with this sloppy reporting! Seriously!

Maybe normal is not complaining about EVERYTHING you read.... Worry about the weather in your own town. Since the reporting is so awfull, quit reading it
