Abortion discussion

April 21, 2013

Dr. Jeremiah Glosenger, Minot Dr. Cain recently wrote a letter designed to instill some unfounded as well as outright false fears in an effort to have people opposed the Personhood bill (SB 2303)....

There are a lot of people that refuse to accept that abortion is wrong. But you are not one of them. You've just confirmed that you believe it is wrong. Why is that? You must believe at some level that the life of an unborn child is a life worth protecting - that humanity exists within the womb. You say that you would never abort your child, but you adopt the posture of a bystander when it comes to other people.

Abortion is not an issue on which you can casually adopt that bystander persona. You either condone it, or you don't. And if you condone it, you are no better than the person that would commit the act.

EB, I'll double down on your smile, and apply it to your analysis. It seems that you completely missed the point. Or maybe you just want to avoid it.

Just to be clear, the intent of the comparison was not suggest that women are forcefully coerced into abortions, nor doctors. I could have applied the comparison to any serious crime.

Murder. Rape. Theft. Extortion.

The point was that if we applied that standard of "let God sort it out" to all of these crimes, we would have anarchy. Most of our criminal code (Federal, state and local) is designed to protect human beings from the willful acts of other people who seek to do us harm or take something away from us.

I almost have to smile with your comparison of armed robbery and abortion. Women are not held at gunpoint and their babies stolen from their bodies. To continue your comparison it would be more like a women going to the Dr and forcing him to perform her abortion at gunpoint.

Anger69... It means I would not be in favor of a child of mine being aborted but I don't feel I have the right to take that decision away from you, if you want to kill your baby you will probably kill your baby in some horrible way if you don't have sanitary medical help. God will do the judging in my world. Procedamus in pace.

EB, in response to the answer you've issued to your own poll, and with all due respect, I've never understood how someone could both personally oppose abortion, yet at the same time, condone it for others.

For you to be personally opposed to abortion, I have to presume that you are opposed to it on moral grounds - that you recognize the humanity of the life that would be extinguished in the abortion.

To me, it would be akin to saying "I believe armed robbery is wrong and I would never personally engage in that behavior, but I wouldn't want to interfere with another individual's right to make that decision for him or herself."

Your welcome Loco and no offense taken. You are not offensive in your communications thankfully. I am hoping to see more unpolitical people like me comment but they catch so much*****from the political paparazzi on here they probably have to go throw up to cleanse themselves from such BS.

Thanks, EB, I learned something today.

My viewpoint on abortion has been crystal clear up to this point, without poll participation. No offense meant, EB.

I have been all three (barefoot, pregnant, and in the kitchen) at various times in my life and I lived to tell about it.

A man beat me? I don't think so...

"Womens right to vote....If you don't like to vote, STAY HOME!!!! A LOT of women fought and died for your right to vote!!!

As far as Slavery...I REALLY don't think your that friggin STUPID!!!!"

icart, you're delightfully charming in your ways of conversation. I think telling everyone who disagrees with you that they're #@%$* STUPID is the best way to have meaningful dialogue, don't you?

Look up the SCOTUS decisions I mentioned: Dred Scott case 1857, no more black slavery 1865 & 1866, yes to women's votes 1920, Roe v. Wade 1973 plus 13 key abortion cases since then. Then we'll "talk."

If centerish can assign homework, so can I.

Since other "constitutional" issues have been addressed since our nation's founding (like abolishing slavery and votes for women), should we count on pro-CHOICE to be "constitutional" forever?

I would hope so loco...Otherwise the KNUCKLE-DRAGGERS on this post of billdoesnt, dusty, and subman would have both of us barefoot and preggers in the kitchen, while they beat us just because we are women!!

Well, the one thing your correct on loco is the year...otherwise...TOTAL BS!! The Supreme Court did not "invent" legal abortion, much less abortion itself, when it handed down its historic Roe v. Wade decision in 1973. Abortion, both legal and illegal, had long been part of life in America. Generally permitted at the nation's founding and for several decades thereafter, the procedure was made illegal under most circumstances in most states beginning in the mid-1800s. In the 1960s, states began reforming their strict antiabortion laws, so that when the Supreme Court made abortion legal nationwide, legal abortions were already available in 17 states under a range of circumstances beyond those necessary to SAVE a woman's life

I think it's a decadent culture that allows one person's "choice" to end the life of...

(Let's see, how to fill this spot)

...a tissue blob, a mass of goo, a fetus, an inconvenience, an unborn child, or "other."

BTW, a woman's pro-CHOICE right to an abortion wasn't "constitutional" or even addressed until 1973. Then, a majority of Supreme Court justices ruled abortion "constitutional" under an implied right to privacy. The court also had to rule that the fetus had only the "potential of life" thus it didn't have any rights of its own.

Since other "constitutional" issues have been addressed since our nation's founding (like abolishing slavery and votes for women), should we count on pro-CHOICE to be "constitutional" forever?

I sure wish we could ask Dred Scott for his CHOICE opinion of the SCOTUS decision about his CHOICE to be a free black man in pre-Civil War USA.

herves...subman...work on your spell check!!!

For all you bible thumpers...here's some "info" for you...

Genesis 2:7 Then the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man's nostrils, and the man became a living person.

Can I repeat it one more time?...

He breathed the breath of life into the man's nostrils, and the man became a living person.

Note to all you repubics..It is not the unborn who are the most vulnerable amoung us. It is the millions of children who you seek to deprive of healthcare, food, and education.

FYI loco...The term is pro-"CHOICE" which means it is the CHOICE of the woman to do with HER BODY as she CHOOSES!! If she wants the baby...THAT'S HER CHOICE...If she doesn't...THAT's HER CHOICE!!!!

But I'm sure glad that you want to make that decision for her...ESPECIALLY since it IS NOT YOUR choice!!!!

And it's interesting to see how the pro-life people broadly generalize about pro-CHOICERS: how they love to protect their children from guns; their hate for war; and ESPECIALLY, how they are THE ONLY ONES WHO are there for the children who have already been born, but the re-pubics who cut funding for food, early childhood education, and just wasted millions of dollars for court costs against UNCONSTITUTIONAL right for all women!!!

Interesting, but very sad.

It's interesting to see the pro-abortion people talk about the defenseless fetus: it's only goo; let it arm itself with a gun and prevent its own abortion; if it's a person it should pay its own bills.

And it's interesting to see how the pro-abortion people broadly generalize about pro-lifers: they love their guns; they love war; they don't love children when they're born.

Interesting, but very sad.
