I remember when that program started, it was so weird because they took some of our friends right out of regular school and put them in there. Sure my friends they made go to special school were a little slow but at least they had tons of friends to help them get through school and enter the workforce with. From what I saw out of that program is when there are no special needs kids available they just take some slower quiet kids and stick them in the special programs. It's the worst idea in the world to segregate the special needs people from the rest of kids. It's terrible how different and left out it makes the special needs people feel. When a bird has a broken wing you don't throw it in the air to make it fly, you let it heal and it will fly when it's ready.

Unfortunately it was the same way when I was growing up as well. But much has changed since then. A massive portion of special needs children are intergrated right into the classrooms with their peers. With a small amount of one on one teaching where it's needed.

takahari4... I think the kids get way more one on one teaching in regular school, after all they have the teacher and all the other students to ask questions and learn from. In special needs classes they have only one person to look to for help.
