From the Grand Forks Herald Jan. 12 (Reposted on the advisoryDOTcom daily briefing Feb. 6): "Gov. Jack Dalrymple (R) in January said the politics associated with the ACA should not prevent North Dakota from participating in the Medicaid expansion. He is supporting a bill that would allow the state health department to access federal funds allocated through the ACA. Dalrymple also said he will include the expansion in his budget proposal and that members of his staff will testify in favor of the expansion before state lawmakers."

I'm tired of holding my nose and voting for these RINOs. I had no faith that Dalrymple would ever take a conservative stand on any important issue, and yet we vote in these moderate finger-to-the wind politicians to do what? The exact same thing that a Democrat would do?

And the talking heads in the media try to tell us that this is the future of the Republican party?

Conservatives need to make a decision. Force these waffling moderates out, or withdraw from the party.

I'd like to see the employed individuals who have a portion of their health care benefit paid by an employer relinquish this "gift" and volunteer to pay all of the cost of their health insurance. This untaxed benefit is called a "tax expenditure" and it amounts to about 35% ins. premiums and costs the gov't over $200B/yr. Any of you slackers feeding at that trough?

raj, perhaps your wish will be granted with the full implementation of ACA. Have you checked that out yet? But as far as "volunteering" to pay, ACA says "mandate" which is not the same.

The problem with tax expenditures is that they are regressive---they encourage spending on "Cadillac" plans 'cause the rich can buy all the insurance they need and pass the bill onto the rest of us.(Govt) No problem there with you, right? And the less well off can't access the deduction without spending a very large percentage of their income in medical expenses. The ACA does not just mandate purchasing HI, but includes a tax credit to help with that purchase. If there is much difference between the tax deduction the employer gets and the tax credit I will get, I don't know what it is. I currently pay 100% of my HI cost, I look forward to the tax credit.

If an employer chooses to drop his HI benefit when the ACA kick in, I would consider letting him know that he doesn't deserve your services.

Perhaps in ND's current boom economy, but in the rest of the country, good-paying jobs with HI aren't a dime a dozen and not too easily replaced.

"lorexxxamay never complains when we borrowed money for planes that don't fly, tanks that are immediately put in the desert due to overstocking and bombs, bombs bombs."

I'm willing to say that ALL the money that we've borrowed from China is being used in our government's wasteful spending, no matter the dept., no matter the pork project.

Granted, bill, hypocrisy doesn't help in any discussion. But until the politicians are willing to actually consider spending cuts (not those 10 years away either), balanced budgets, and abolishing programs' waste, our discussions here can just continue on the bridge to nowhere.
