Jumping at the chance

Chris Bieri/MDN Minot High girls golfers (from left) Mackenzie Nagel, Brooklyn Bender, Mickayla Nagel, Shantel Montgomery, Emma Kusick and Danielle Foster hope to complete a perfect season at the state golf meet.

In eight starts this season, the Minot High School girls golf team has won eight tournaments. Good, but not exactly what the Majettes are looking for. Minot High is looking to get its all-important ninth win at the Class A State Girls Golf Meet, set to tee off today at 8:30 a.m. at the Minot Country Club. Play continues Tuesday at the MCC. “We’ve been preparing for this all summer,” MHS senior Shantel Montgomery said. “The state tournament is really the one that counts. It’s nice to win all the tournaments and everyone’s invites, but this is the one we’ve had our eye on and the one we want to play our best on.” Minot High finished the regular season with a 328.3 stroke average per tournament. The next closest team is defending state champ Fargo Shanley, which posted a 357.9. Majettes head coach Eric Hendrickson said the Majettes will concentrate on doing things the way they have all season. “We expect to play this week the way we have all year,” he said.
