ONGOING BOOK SALE – The Minot Adult Literacy Volunteers’ semi-annual book sale is being held weekdays through Sept. 12. The sale will be from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day except for Labor Day in the Minot Adult Learning Center, 1609-4th Ave NW. Book donations are welcome. SCHOOL MEALS – Free and reduced price meals are available to students at area schools whose families qualify. The meals are offered by the following Ward County schools participating in the National School Lunch Program and the School Breakfast Program: Minot Public School, Nedrose, United (Des Lacs-Burlington), Bell, Sawyer, Kenmare, Surrey, Lewis & Clark, South Prairie and Minot Catholic Schools. The income eligibility guidelines in effect for July 1, 2008, through June 30, 2009, are based on family size and yearly, monthly or weekly income.

TOWNER – A desire to beautify vacant lots on main street has led a group of Towner women to create a downtown gazebo park.
The Towner Red Hat Ladies began making plans a year ago for the park.

FILL THE BOOT – Minot Local 1157 Uniformed Firefighters will again sponsor the Muscular Dystrophy Association Fill the Boot fundraiser today from 4 to 6 p.m. in front of MarketPlace Foods, 1930 S. Broadway, and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
