Three Affiliated Tribes honor fallen soldiers with memorial

Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D., left of memorial, and at Dorgan’s right, Marcus Wells Jr., chairman of the Three Affiliated Tribes, and Malcolm Wolf, New Town/Little Shell representative to the tribal business council, were among dignitaries and military veterans participating in the dedication of the Fallen Soldiers Memorial west of New Town Tuesday.
NEW TOWN – The Three Affiliated Tribes’ Fallen Soldiers Memorial was dedicated Tuesday near the Three Tribes Museum west of New Town. Several Legion posts and Ladies Auxiliary Unit 300 participated in the activities along with Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D. Legion posts attending included the Myron B. Johnson/Nathan Goodiron Post of Mandaree, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9061 of New Town, and Elmer Young Hawk-Bear Post of White Shield, and the Byron Kulland Post of New Town. The memorial reads: “The Three Affiliated Tribes honors and remembers those tribal members and soldiers who gave the ultimate sacrifice – Gone But Not Forgotten” The dedication date “September 2, 2008,” also is on the monument. There are 13 nameplates presently for the soldiers who were honored. Each flagpole represents each of the fallen soldiers. Dorgan donated the 13 flags that were raised on Tuesday. Each flag was flown over the Capitol in Washington, D.C. On Veterans Day, Nov.
