Chacon deserved to be released after shoving an official
As expected, the Major League Baseball player’s association has filed a grievance on behalf of former Houston?Astros pitcher Shawn Chacon, who had his contract with the team terminated after he shoving the team’s general manager to the floor during an altercation. The grievance says Chacon was terminated without just cause. Please. If shoving a team official to the floor doesn’t constitute just cause, what does? Here’s a test: Shove your boss to the floor today at work and see what happens. Chacon’s incident reminds of the case of former NBA?player Latrell Sprewell, who was suspended in 1997 for choking his coach at practice. Sprewell was suspended for 82 games, the length of the NBA?season, and the Golden State Warriors voided the remaining $27 million on his contract. Yet the contract was reinstated by an arbitrator after a grievance was filed on Sprewell’s behalf.
