New Haven baseball league setting a horrible example for kids
What kind of a lesson are baseball officials in New Haven, Conn., trying to teach their players? The Youth Baseball League of New Haven has banned 9-year-old Jericho Scott from pitching in the league. His sin? He’s too good. Literally. That’s what league officials told his parents and his coach. The kid is too good. An attorney for the league (who knew a baseball league for 9-year-olds needed an attorney) said Jericho throws 40 miles per hour, and that’s just too fast for some players in the league. Jericho hasn’t hit any batters with a pitch, but he throws too hard, and facing that kind of speed can be “frightening” for some other players, the lawyer said. We can already hear the next conversation between a coach and the league’s lawyer: “Say, we’d like to ban little Timmy from the league, too.?He hit a really hard line drive yesterday, and some kids on my team just can’t catch the ball when he hits it so hard.
