January 1, 2013 - Staff Blog
BISMARCK -- The Minot Minotauros could not solve Bismarck goaltender Aaron Nelson, resulting in a 2-0 loss Monday at VFW Sports Center to close out the 2012 portion of the season.
The Tauros (16-15-2) managed just 19 shots on goal and no more than eight in a single period. Forward Lucas Oliver led Minot with three shots on net, but Nelson tracked the puck well all the night. The Tauros have lost consecutive games for the first time since late October.
Bismarck's Cory Chapman put the Bobcats (19-12-2) in front at 5:12 of the opening period, beating Tauros goaltender Tyler Parks. Levi Blom was credited with the assist on Chapman's goal.
Patrick Moore gave the Bobcats a two-goal lead at 2:24 of the second period to cap off the game's scoring. Mike Dockry and Chris Diver earned the assists on the scoring play.
The Tauros and Bobcats both finished 0-for-6 on the power play.
Parks finished with 26 saves for Minot in a losing effort.
The Tauros' loss, coupled with Brookings' overtime victory over Aberdeen, drops them to fourth place in the NAHL Central Division, two points behind the Blizzard.
Minot travels to Aberdeen on Thursday at 7:15 p.m. It's the second of six straight road games for the Tauros.
