Cynthia Wilder no longer appealing life sentence in murder conspiracy case
Former Minot kindergarten teacher Cynthia Louise Wilder, 28, has withdrawn her appeal to the State Supreme Court in her murder conspiracy case.
Wilder was sentenced in May to life without parole for helping her husband, Richie Edwin Wilder Jr., plan the brutal stabbing murder of his ex-wife, Angila Wilder, on Nov. 1, 2015.
Richie Wilder Jr. was convicted by a jury for the murder and is also serving a sentence of life without parole.
Cynthia Wilder confessed her role in the crime to an old friend, who was working with the Minot police and was wearing a wire. Cynthia Wilder admitted to staking out Angila Wilder’s home to see what time people came and left from the residence and to helping her husband clean up blood evidence when he came home after committing the murder. She was arrested following that confession and later changed her plea to guilty.
She had filed an appeal in June, but the Supreme Court officially dismissed the appeal on Oct. 1 after receiving a letter from her attorney.
Wilder’s public defender, David Ogren, said Thursday that the appeal of the sentence will not be refiled. Ogren said he could not give the reasons why Wilder decided to withdraw her appeal.
The Wilder case was the subject of a story on NBC’s Dateline earlier this year.
Richie Wilder Jr. had an acrimonious relationship with his ex-wife, Angila Wilder, and they had fought over custody of their two children, who were staying with Richie and Cynthia Wilder on the night of the murder.
Richie Wilder Jr. had tried to frame Angila Wilder’s boyfriend for the murder, but there was proof he was working the night shift at Walmart that night. He came home the following morning and called police. Angila Wilder was found dead in her residence and their toddler son was found unharmed in another room of the residence.
Richie Wilder Jr. and Cynthia Wilder also have a daughter together.
As of last year, all of the children in the case were being cared for by relatives.
