Songs of love, unity and equality paired with passionate live performances continue to garner growing excitement for the Joe Davis Band.

From North Dakota to North Carolina, the Joe Davis Band has performed at numerous festivals and venues.

Noted for their signature blend of funk, gospel, folk and rock, the Joe Davis Band has established a style called “freedom funk.”

“We don’t shy away from experimentation,” Davis said. “There’s no musical realm that we’re unwilling to explore. As artists, we’re trying to tap into the human experience and capture human emotions.”

Tonight at 7 p.m., the Joe Davis Band looks forward to sharing their hypnotic funk and compelling lyrics.

Davis, a native of Minot, is joined by five multi-talented singers and musicians.

“Nii Adjetey Mensah is a multi-instrumentalist from Ghana,” Davis said. “Nii is a gifted bassist who can play the djembe and flute. Nii can also beat box.”

In their latest song “Ancestral Origins,” lead guitarist Justin Halverson emphatically slides into a funk fused bass groove as drummer Traiveon Dunlap, executes a commanding cadence on the djembe drums.

“I love ‘Ancestral Origins,'” Davis said. “This song is really fun and has a lot of energy. It’s funky and it’s alive.”

Davis, a poet, lecturer and social activist, delivers a flurry of clever rhymes and scintillating stories.

In the wake of national protests and socio-political strife, Davis wants to create music that promotes healing and inspires unity for humanity.

Described by Davis as a vocal powerhouse, Imani Waters is an expressive singer who can move audiences with heart rendering vocals.

Throughout “Liberation Song,” Waters pays homage to the late singer, songwriter and activist Nina Simone, as she describes the cycle of injustice, poverty and various blights of society.

“Strange fruit, hanging from the tree, we’re still struggling with the same fruit because we’re oppressed down to the root,” Waters sings.

According to Davis and members the Joe Davis Band, breaking the cycle of racial, political and social oppression opens the door to healing and unity across the world.

” ‘Liberation Song’ is a cry of our generation demanding freedom right here and right now,” Davis said. “People are frustrated with the slow process with no progress. Too often we externalize power and depend too much on systems and other people to give us freedom. We don’t have to wait for something or someone to set us free, we have everything we need within ourselves and our communities to be empowered. True freedom starts from within.”

Along with sharing songs of generational hope and healing, the Joe Davis Band addresses the most challenging battle one can face, the fight within.

“Diamonds Of The Soul” is a new single from the Joe Davis Band, that opens with keyboardist Lewis Hill II playing a soulful series of melodies on the piano.

Fusing elements of gospel and r&b, “Diamonds Of The Soul” tells the story of facing trauma, overcoming tragedy and feeling stronger after surviving adversity.

“Diamonds are made through adversity,” Davis said. “I feel like our soul shares the strength of a diamond. No matter what we go through, we can overcome anything.”

As the Joe Davis Band continues their national tour, their goal is to grow closer as a band while using their music to help listeners grow closer to humanity.

“We’re creating freedom songs,” Davis said. “We want to write music of the people, by the people and for the people. During the American civil rights era, when people marched, boycotted and conducted sit-ins, they relied on music to give them strength. Songs such as ‘We shall overcome’ inspired protesters to walk toward snarling dogs and face the painful shots of water from fire hoses. Music has the power to galvanize and encourage the spirit. It’s our goal to continue to bring people together and share the message of unity.”
